Club for Growth targets Ose in TV ad

The Club for Growth Monday launched its first television advertisement targeting Republican Congressional candidate Doug Ose, who is locked in a primary battle with Tom McClintock.

The 30-second advertisement, which is airing on broadcast and cable television in the Roseville-area district, takes Ose to task for his record on spending issues.

“Doug Ose has lots of ads but they leave out several pieces of the puzzle,” a narrator says. “Ose had a really liberal record in Congress. He voted to waste billions on pork projects like an indoor rainforest in Iowa, peanut competitiveness, and the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. Ose even voted for a Democrat budget and huge new entitlement spending. Doug Ose, a lot more liberal than he wants you to think.”

It’s not the first time the organization has targeted Ose. Last week, the Club for Growth launched a 1-minute radio advertisement taking aim at the former U.S. Congressman. In March, the organization endorsed McClintock’s campaign.

As a registered PAC, the Club for Growth can spend its own money on McClintock’s behalf, though it is prohibited from coordinating its efforts with the McClintock campaign. But the Ose campaign swung back following the release of the television advertisement, saying that the Club for Growth and the McClintock campaign could be working together.

“It’s possible that coordination is happening,” said Ose spokesman Doug Elmets.

Nachama Soloveichik, a spokeswoman for the Club for Growth, responded, “It is an unadulterated lie."

“They are trying to throw anything out there and it is a sign of desperation on the part of the Ose campaign,” said McClintock spokesman Stan Devereux.
