Brown questions McClintock over Independence Day absences

Congressional Candidate Charlie Brown: Campaign photoCongressional candidate Charlie Brown has released a three-day slate of activities related to the Independence Day weekend, while criticizing Republican opponent Tom McClintock for not doing the same.

Brown, a Democrat running in California's 4th Congressional District, will visit six different cities in the district, which stretches over a few hundred miles of northeastern California.

According to the schedule released by his campaign, Brown will be at a celebration at Lake Tahoe on Thursday evening, at events in Lincoln, Roseville, Auburn and Grass Valley on Friday, and at three different events in Alturas on Saturday.

Todd Stenhouse, Brown's campaign manager, noted in the release that State Sen. McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) has not made public appearances in the district in several weeks.

"As the people of Southern California already know, when it comes to the issue of local leadership, Tom McClintock has been AWOL his entire career," Stenhouse wrote in the release.

McClintock, one of the best-known conservative politicians in California, moved from his Southern California senate district to run in the Fourth District. Incumbent Rep. John Doolittle (R-Roseville) is not running for another term.

Brown lost to Doolittle by three percentage points in 2006.
