DeLay to speak at GOP Riverside dinner

Former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) will be the keynote speaker for the Riverside County Republican Party's annual Liberty Dinner on Oct. 4.

DeLay, who left office in 2006 after being indicted the previous year in connection with a campaign finance scandal, has since started a group that seeks to unite conservatives. He also provides frequent guest political commentary on TV and radio.

The party chairman in Riverside County said the county organization was thrilled to get a visit from a political figure of such stature.

"Tom DeLay is a great Republican and a great American," said Chairman Bob Richmond in a press release from the party. "Leader DeLay continues to advance our party principles and speak out on the issues that matter most to American families."

Several other top Republicans from Riverside County are scheduled to attend the dinner, including U.S. Reps. Mary Bono Mack, Ken Calvert and Darrell Issa. The event is at the Morongo Resort & Casino.

DeLay is still awaiting trial over two counts of conspiracy to violate election law, although a third count was dismissed. His seat in Texas is now held by a Democrat, Nick Lampson.

No wonder the Repugnicans were buried in the last election.

It figures the Rethugnicans would have someone like Tom DeLay come speak. If this is the best they can do, then it's no wonder they were slaughtered in the last election.

The Repignican party is an irrelevant gang of angry old White guys, and as a White guy myself, the Repugs are a sickening, disgusting embarassment to us. Thanks to criminals like Tom Delay, Ted Stevens, Larry Craig, Duke Cunningham, Trent Lies-a-Lott, and the endless list of all the others (see www.armchairsubversive.com for a partial list), they've made the Repugnican party about as relevant as the Whigs, and if one wants to see what Rethugnican rule will get us, one only need consider that we are now at the worst point in the economy since the Great Depression. To see them all lining up for bailouts is proof that their lies about an "ownership society" were nothing but enormous scams, and what they really wanted all along was socialism for the rich, and strict capitalism for the poor and middle class.

This is what rule by the most immoral, greedy, and unqualified will get us, and is what is known as a kakistocracy, and Dictator Bush has not only turned us into a truly and genuinely fascist government, but instituted rule by theocratic kakistocrats as well. Is it any wonder why he's now considered the "Worst President Ever"?

The Rethugnicans are nothing but a bunch of evil, immoral un-American, treasonous, craven, sick, detestable evil rats, and to them I say "good riddance to bad rubbish!".

Tom DeLay, the perfect man to personify the Republican Party.

Let's remember all the help the California Republican Congressional Delegation gave in helping the State of California during the "Great Electricity De-Regulation Scam" perpetrated by Enron and Kenny "Boy" Lay. Nothing is what they did, if they had tried we would have gotten all the money back. But they held to party loyalty over loyalty to the people of the State of California.

I just can't believe that they are bringing this man into the state and publicizing it.

With twenty percent of the most corrupt Congresspersons in California districts why bring another corrupt congressman in to boost the corruption connection?

My Congressman is Ken

My Congressman is Ken Calvert and I'm a registered Republican (have been my entire life) but I am personally disgusted that he not only has his own ethics issues (does anyone remember the prostitute or the questionable lands deals that are STILL plaguing him)but he keeps showing up with these other ethically-challenged Republicans. First it was Cheney and now DeLay. Come on, Ken, this district deserves better. If you don't clean up your act, I'm gonna have to sit home in November because I refuse to hold my nose and vote for you again.

I had to withdraw my request

I had to withdraw my request for consideration of The Riverside County Republican Party's endorsement because of their leadership's choice of keynote speaker. The concern is two-fold. Firstly, Tom Delay, while not convicted YET there was sufficient evidence found under his leadership for an ethics probe and in January 2006, under pressure from fellow Republicans, DeLay announced that he would not seek to return to the position of House Majority Leader and two of his former aides were convicted in the Jack Abramoff scandal. Image is everything. Republicans should be trying to remedy the perception that we are the party of greed and corruption. Secondly, selecting Tom Delay with so many other good choices was an indication to me that the Riverside County Republican Party wants to maintain the image that they will do anything, even support corrupt behavior, because, the subliminal message to people like Dan Stephenson is "we support bought and paid for politicians". Those endorsed by this club will carry the perception of corruption as baggage in the years ahead. Just as Kevin Jeffries, former leader of this club, carries the baggage today because of his connection and financial support from Dan Stephenson in exchange for the Riverside County Republican Party's opposition to the Murrieta Recall Measure in 2005. Guilty by association as they say.

It All Adds Up

Ken Calvert appears to be lining up the endorsements of politicians with whom he shares a deep and abiding conviction. That is, keep the money flowing to corporations and cronies – no matter what the cost to the health and well-being of the American people.

First, a fundraiser with a Vice President so plagued by scandal that he can’t get above an 18% approval rating. Now, it appears Calvert will proudly stand with someone who’s actually been indicted for conspiracy - he of the gleeful mug-shot - Tom Delay!

These are Calvert’s friends, the people who support him and trust he will follow their agenda. What else do the voters of the 44th CD need to be convinced that Ken Calvert is a legislator in name only? Calvert is a bag man for big oil, developers and the military industrial complex while his constituents struggle daily to make ends meet.

I know - how about a live video hook-up with best wishes from Duke Cunningham? From behind bars. I wouldn’t be surprised.

Another one?

Is Ken Calvert on some sort of "Who can I bring to my District that is more heinous than me?" tour?

First Dick Cheney - now Tom DeLay. Are the Reps around here trying to bring the most evil people they can think of to this area so they look better by comparison?

Hey Republicans! You know why you guys are able to get the uber-evil to come to our neck of the woods? Because no Republicans in their right mind wants anything to do with DeLay and Cheney!

We need to give these Reps a serious wake-up call this November. They are so smug and so comfortable in their position that they think they can do whatever they want and we just have to take it.

Let's prove them wrong this November!
