BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - U.S. Rep. David Dreier told California's GOP convention delegation that not only can U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) win the state in the November presidential election, the state could provide a boost for the party's congressional fortunes as well.
Dreier said afterward that he was high on the prospects of Republican Dean Andal unseating U.S. Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton) in the 11th Congressional District, along with possible wins in Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
"I don't think we're going to lose seats in November," Dreier (R-San Dimas) said of his party's prospects in the House of Representatives. "They say we'll lose 20 seats, and I think that's too high. We could possibly even gain some seats."
During his speech to the delegation, Dreier concentrated on support for McCain and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who is set to accept the Republican vice presidential nomination tonight in St. Paul.
He said that because Alaska has trade offices around the Pacific Rim, Palin has experience in dealing with foreign leaders on trade issues.
"I don't believe we've ever had the opportunity with two people to run for president and vice president who identify so well with working families," Dreier said.
That would help appeal to independents in California and elsewhere who might be tempted to vote for Republicans, he said.
"I'm convinced if we all work for it, we can win California and make gains all the way across the board," he said to the delegation.

David Dreier said what?
Republicans could pick up a seat in Congress?
Wow, must be good kind bud where he comes from.
Working class family values?
John McCain sucked up to a woman who is worth a hundred million dollars and kicked the old wife to the curb. That's not working class family values.
John McCain walks around in $500 shoes because he can't decide which house to sleep in at night. When you lose track of how many places you can lay your head at night ... not working class values.
Perhaps Mr. Dreier believes he can fly too. I suggest he take off from the parking lot ... at ground level. That way he can't hurt himself.
