Federal investigators have begun checking into a nonprofit group run by Sacramento mayoral hopeful Kevin Johnson, but Johnson said he's confident nothing large will be found amiss.
"Although we have not seen the report, we are confident that it will show only administrative mistakes that St. HOPE already has acknowledged. We look forward to the U.S. Attorney's review and will continue to cooperate fully," Johnsons said in a statement released by his campaign.
Numerous media outlets reported this week that the Corporation of National and Community Service had referred its own investigation of Johnson's St. Hope "Hood Corps" group to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Sacramento.
The group had looked into complaints over the group's misuse of taxpayer dollars and mishandling of possible sexual misconduct.
Johnson, a retired NBA All-Star who has since run nonprofit education programs in his Sacramento hometown, is running against incumbent Mayor Heather Fargo.
