Assemblyman Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) will chair the Committee on Housing and Community Development beginning next year, as announced by state Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) this week.
Mendoza, who represents the 56th Assembly District in Southern California, will replace Assemblywoman Lori Saldana (D-San Diego) as chair in the new legislative session.
Elected to the state Assembly in 2006, Mendoza has already filed papers to run for a state Senate seat in 2012, after he would be termed out.
Saldana has plans to run for a seat on the state Board of Equalization in 2010, according to the California Secretary of State's website.
