Three Northern California members of Congress - all Democrats, and all from the Bay Area - make the list of richest elected representatives in Washington D.C., according to a new list compiled by Roll Call of the 50 wealthiest congressional members. Eight politicians from all of California make the list.
U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-San Francisco) ranks eighth on the list, with an estimated value of $52.34 million. With her husband, financier Richard Blum, Feinstein has a diversified and lucrative stock portfolio that grew by $1.8 million in the last two years. She also owns homes in Hawaii and Tahoe City.
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) comes in at 17th on the list with a value of $18.7 million. Pelosi owns a home in Norden and a real estate investment in Napa, and her husband also owns a commercial property in San Francisco. Together, they own a vineyard in St. Helena.
Recently elected U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Hillsborough) ranks 46th with an estimated value of $5.77 million, stemming mostly from her ownership of four California properties with a combined value of at least $3 million. Her husband also owns about $1 million in stock in a California investment firm.
Roll Call compiled the list using financial disclosure forms and follow-up questions with each congressperson's office. U.S. Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, worth an estimated $230.98 million, led the list.
