The opponents of redistricting measure Proposition 11 gave a long list of labor organizations opposed to the proposition Friday and then asked a question: Which side are you on?
Citizens for Accountability, an anti-11 group, said in a press release that California workers are opposed to putting the power of political district reapportionment in the hands of a 14-member committee, and opposed to the lengthy process to draw new maps under Proposition 11.
The group also criticized the wealthy fundraisers who have backed the measure, a group that includes Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Opponents include the California Democratic Party and such unions as the California Federation of Teachers and the United Teachers of Los Angeles.
The release's query could be asked of one of the state's most powerful political unions, the California Teachers Association. That group, with more than 340,000 members, has yet to take a position on Proposition 11, but could do so this weekend during one of its four annual meetings.
Mike Myslinski, a spokesman for the CTA, said he had no comment on the press release.
"It's well known that we haven't taken a position," he said.
In addition to Schwarzenegger, backers of 11 include the League of Women Voters, state AARP and NAACP, and California Common Cause.
