Gubernatorial candidate in-waiting Steve Poizner sent an open letter to his party Monday calling on it to register and vote in races up and down the ballot in a month's time.
Poizner, the state insurance commissioner and a probable GOP governor candidate in 2010, said in the letter that anyone who wants to vote on Nov. 4 has to be registered within the next two weeks.
He added that Republican groups looking to boost registration stand to receive $5 per new voter from a bounty program he's offering.
With Republican presidential nominee John McCain unlikely to win California, some observers believe there could be a down-ballot effect that hurts Republican chances in congressional, legislative, and local races.
