Seven of top 10 congressional districts for foreclosures are in CA

Seven of the 10 congressional districts most hard hit by foreclosures are in California, according to a firm that tracks foreclosure data and other real estate information.

HotPads.com, a map-based real estate search engine, noted that California's 18th Congressional District leads the nation with foreclosures, at a rate of 4.59 percent, or nearly 10 times the national average of .47 percent.

U.S. Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-Atwater), who has represented that district since 2002, is unopposed in his run for re-election this year. The site notes how Cardoza and other representatives from foreclosure-heavy districts voted on both a foreclosure rescue plan earlier this year and the Wall Street bailout package last week; Cardoza supported both bills.

The 45th Congressional District in California, represented by Mary Bono-Mack (R-Palm Springs) is second, with a 4.51 percent foreclosure rate. U.S. Rep. Joe Baca's (D-San Bernardino) 43rd district is fourth, and districts 41, 25 and 44 are ranked 6th, 7th and 8th.

The 11th Congressional District, which has a competitive race between freshman U.S. Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton) and Stockton businessman and former Republican legislator Dean Andal, is 10th on the list.
