Brown signs health care pledge, blasts McClintock over issue

Democratic congressional candidate Charlie Brown signed a pledge Wednesday to advocate for affordable health care for every child and pregnant woman in the U.S., and criticized opponent Tom McClintock for voting otherwise as a state senator.

In signing the Children's Defense Council's pledge, Brown said focusing on prevention is a critical way to bring down soaring health care costs.

"And we can do that by ensuring all children and pregnant women have access to affordable coverage which includes comprehensive benefits," Brown said in a campaign press release.

Brown said in the release that McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) had repeatedly voted against bills to provide health care to children and women as a state legislator, and had also taken thousands of dollars in contributions from health care and pharmaceutical companies.

He specifically criticized McClintock for authoring an unsuccessful bill earlier this year that Brown said would've made it harder for people with pre-existing medical conditions to receive health coverage.

"His record of inaction has not only helped drive up the cost of health care for every Californian, it's illustrative of a career politician hypocrite who would rather serve himself, than solve problems," Brown said in the release.

Bill George, a spokesman for McClintock's campaign, said in an email statement that Brown had signed a pledge calling for a wasteful and ineffective government-run health care program.

Getting children health care could be better accomplished by giving parents a tax credit to buy health care plans, as McClintock has called for, George said.

"Even Barack Obama says it's time to look at scaling back some of the immense programs he has proposed; but Charlie goes on spending, spending, spending taxpayers' money," George said. "But who's going to pay for it?"

George also said Brown was wrong about McClintock's bill, SB 1669. That bill would've made it easier, not more difficult, for people with pre-existing health conditions to get coverage, George said.

Does McClintock support McCain's new tax on health care?

A tax on employer provided health care insurance is a tax on something that has never been taxed. How is this not an attack on the working class American?

Or will McClintock reject the McCain plan too?

Oh by the way, who provides McClintock with health insurance? The California tax payers.

Once Again Charlie Brown Is Right On Target

I have come to know Charlie Brown over the last couple of years and not only is he a great guy, he is on the right track to make Northern California and our special needs matter in Congress. He is on the proper side of pretty much every issue.

Furthermore, we don't need someone who does not know the meaning of compromise for the good of the people he is to represent. The Never, Never, Never approach to representation is NOT what we need in Washington or Sacramento. It is the very thing that gets us in the mess we are as a Country and as a State. Even if you think McClintock is right on issues, he has shown that he DOES NOT HAVE THE LEADERSHIP to get his ideas done. Pretty much NOT what we need, again, representing us in Washington.

I am proud to call Charlie Brown my friend first. I will be just as proud to call him my Congressman come election day.

McClintock has Taken Over $200K from Health & Insurance

Yep. Since 2000 McClintock has pocketed over $200K in campaign contributions from health professionals and insurance companies. His legislation simply follows the money.

Bill George is an embarrassment to the McClintock campaign

McClintock's boy George doesn't know what he is talking about. Here's what the California Medical Association, representing the doctors in California, said according the Senate Health Committee analysis (April 2008) of The Venturian Candidate's health reform bill:

"The California Medical Association writes that the bill acts as a significant barrier to care and turns the clock back on gains made to provide access to care in this market."

What was exceptionally noteworthy about McClintock's health insurance"reform" proposal was that it was listed in the Senate Health Committee analysis as having no "support." Now it is obvious this was written by someone very familiar with the intricacies of the health insurance market. It took a deft piece of editing to change the "look back" period for pre-existing conditions from one year to ten years. Who do you think wanted that? McClintock is in the pocket of the insurance companies. He has no credibility with regard to health care policy. I bet if you looked at his campaign contributions from the insurance industry, you wouldn't be surprised.

For Boy George to try and pass this off as helping and not hurting people with pre-existing conditions is ludicrous beyond belief.

good job

Charlie made the right decision. People like Jimmy who only see things in "red and blue" actually start to SEE RED when the candidate they hate makes a good decision. Tell me, Jimmy... why do you hate kids so much?

Liberal Liar Charlie Brown

Liberal Liar Charlie Brown continues on the one note big Government Path- Shocking. I cannot belive he continues to advocate a one size fits all government run (socialist) healthcare policy that has been proven over and over to cost taxpayers greatly and deliver consistantly poor returns. As someone with family in countries with this type of socialist (government run) healtcare- please stop. It is quite possibly one of the worst, rationed care, long waits, no cutting edge procedures. Universal care is universally bad.
