Barkley to appear for Johnson tonight

Kevin Johnson's former Phoenix Suns teammate will visit Sacramento tonight to help Johnson's campaign to be the state capital's  next mayor.

Charles Barkley will attend a fundraiser and photo opportunity this evening at a downtown Sacramento nightspot with Johnson. Reception tickets are $75.

Members of the media will be able to ask questions of the two men at 7:30 a.m., after the event. Barkley is the second household name from the NBA to have campaigned for Johnson in recent weeks, after Shaquille O'Neal did so in late September.

Barkley, a Barack Obama supporter who said recently that he is a registered Independent, is still considered a possible Alabama gubernatorial candidate.

Johnson is trying to unseat Democratic Mayor Heather Fargo, the incumbent since 2001.
