State Sen. Tom McClintock's congressional campaign made note of opponent Charlie Brown's stances on gay marriage and gun ownership this week, suggesting he's either inconsistent or absent on how he feels.
The McClintock's (R-Thousand Oaks) campaign noted in a press release late Thursday that Brown on a radio show had said he would vote against Proposition 8, after months of evasive answers on the topic.
Friday, the campaign forwarded a release from the Gun Owners of America asking why Brown hasn't filled out and returned a survey the group has sent asking for his position on gun ownership and related legislation.
In that release, the group's vice chairman, Tim Macy, said Brown also didn't return a survey during his 4th Congressional District campaign two years ago.
"It is important for candidates without a legislative record to fill out questionnaires so that voters know where they stand on important issues," Macy said in the release.
Brown campaign manager Todd Stenhouse noted that Brown, a Roseville Democrat, has filled out and returned a survey from the National Rifle Association, the most prominent lobbying organization for gun rights.
"Charlie Brown has been a gun owner since he was 11 years old, and he believes strongly in gun ownership as an individual right," Stenhouse said.
The Gun Owners of America has donated $3,800 to McClintock's campaign, according to the campaign finance website OpenSecrets.org.
Stenhouse said Brown's stance on gay marriage is the same as the one McClintock espoused in his 2003 gubernatorial run: It's not a topic that should be legislated.
Brown has consistently said that he personally feels marriage is between a man and a woman, but that he wouldn't impose that view on others, Stenhouse said.
Bringing up such issues, he added, suggests McClintock has nothing to offer on topics such as the economy, health care and energy.

McClintock
McClintock couldn't lie straight in bed.
He sucks at the public feed bag and takes money from big business.
Gay rights and gun ownership
Gay rights and gun ownership aren't issues of the day? What rock have you been under? Those will always be issues, always.
Yep, when Republicans go God and Guns they got nothing.
Rattle the base much McClintock?
Bud, Bud, Bud... Charlie is
Bud, Bud, Bud...
Charlie is a LIAR! He has lied over and over again (prop 8, Obama Support, Caltax, drilling for oil, etc)
Sean Penn is a gun owner and current CCW holder- doesn't mean he wants you and I to own guns.
Saying one has owned guns since he was 12 and that he "supports the 2nd Amendment" doesn't offer me much to trust him on. Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton say they support the 2nd Amendment- heck so does Obama- but all of them support massive restrictions on our rights including restrictions on rifles, shotguns and handguns. They don’t view it as an individual right!
The NRA and GOA have fought the battles to protect our rights as Americans- I trust them a lot more than a liberal democrats promise. (especially because he has already lied to me and the rest of the voters numerous times.)
NRA
Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy ... who's the idiot in this stream? I think it's you. Charlie's been a gun owner since he was 12 years old. He didn't succor after the NRA's endorsement like McClintock needed to. Charlie knows that he defends the 2nd Amendment and doesn't need the NRA to ratify that. There's nothing partisan about protecting our constitutional rights and nothing the NRA is going to say about that will change Charlie's long-standing view ...
Nice try ...

NRA and GOA support McClintock
In case you are all idiots- NRA and GOA support McClintock for Congress- as do all pro family groups.
The only groups supporting Charlie are the standard left wing types. Charlie is nothing but a nancy pelosi stooge
Pollster.com has .....
.. this race in the heavily Republican district a toss up.
No wonder the McClintock campaign is ramping up the guns and gays, he's got nothing else.
Nothing on the economy, nothing on veteran's issues, nothing on the wars, nothing on health care.
The only reason McClintock has to run (besides being a professional politician) is to keep his government sponsored health care insurance, the stuff he doesn't want the rest of us to have.
... and just wondering, when will Tom McClintock be buying a home in the district and will he move there if he loses the election? The cynic in me says that he's just carpet-bagging and hasn't even looked at homes in the district.
Tom McClintock is a termed out professional politician who would have gone to any open district. I'm not blaming him, he's been in politics since he was twenty five, IT'S ALL HE KNOWS.
Charlie Brown has been out in the world and knows the issues ... likes the district so well he lives there. He ain't a professional politician but is that what people want?
Oh well McClintock has two other elections in the fire.
NRA isn't good enough for the Venturian Candidate
What? The NRA isn't good enough for The Venturian Candidate? He has to search out a sub-group of gun owners. Everyone knows the NRA is the predominant group representing gun owners in America. If McClintock doesn't recognize that, then he's not as smart as many people think he is. If he can't figure that simple thing out, how can we expect him to make complex decisions in Washington?
Bud Lee
When You are Behind and Desperate...
...and Republican, you turn to gays and guns for relief.
This is just another sign that the Tom McClintock can't run on the real issues of the day and feels he has to fall back on tried and true wedge attacks in a vain attempt to get out of the hole.
Does this sound like McCain - Palin, or what?
