The slate of California Republican Party designees to the Electoral College vote includes the current governor and two people reportedly eyeing that job in two years.
The party released Friday its list of people who would cast a vote for Republican presidential nominee John McCain in the Electoral College vote on Dec. 15.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and both Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman are among the 55 electors from the state, the most of any in the country. Poizner has announced his intention to run for governor in 2010, and many believe Whitman is also interested in running in that race.
Other prominent names among the designees include Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines (R-Clovis), Senate Republican Leader Dave Cogdill (R-Modesto), Party Chairman Ron Nehring and former California Secretary of State Bill Jones.
California's electoral votes are cast on a winner-take-all basis, meaning that McCain would have to win the popular vote in the state on Nov. 4 to then have the GOP electors vote for him on Dec. 15.
Polls in California show McCain running well behind Democratic nominee Barack Obama.
