Independent groups made thousands of dollars worth of expenditures this week in three closely watched state Assembly races.
In Assembly District 10, Opportunity PAC spent $40,200 on a mailer in support of Democrat Alyson Huber. The group also spent $36,380 Thursday on a mailer in support of Democrat Joan Buchanan in Assembly District 15.
Both seats are considered critical if Democrats want to get a two-thirds majority in the state legislature. Republican legislators are being termed out in both districts this year.
A group called Californians for Jobs and Education spent $24,155 Thursday to support Buchanan's Republican opponent, San Ramon Mayor Abram Wilson. The money was apparently spent on research, consulting and automated robocalls for Wilson.
Huber's opponent in the 10th district, Republican Jack Sieglock, also had an independent expenditure on his behalf Thursday, with a California Medical Association IE committee spending $25,515 on a mailer for him.
In Assembly District 30, which Democrats are seeking to hold, the group Farmers and Legal Reformers for a Stronger Economy spent $30,600 this week on a mail piece, polling and radio buys on behalf of Republican Danny Gilmore.
