U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-San Francisco) has endorsed Shafter Mayor Fran Florez in her bid to win the 30th Assembly District seat.
In a release from Florez's campaign Friday announcing the endorsement, Feinstein made note of Florez's work on technical education and job development in her Central Valley city.
She also said Florez, a fellow Democrat, was in an influential position as vice chair of the California High Speed Rail Authority.
"Fran knows that the construction jobs and permanent jobs created by the high speed rail system will bring the Valley's economy back to life," Feinstein said in the release.
Florez's campaign noted that her Republican opponent, Danny Gilmore of Hanford, opposes Proposition 1A, the state bond that would provide money for a high-speed rail system in California.
Gilmore and Florez are seeking to replace Assemblywoman Nicole Parra (D-Hanford), who has bucked her party to endorse Gilmore.
