Bill Durston fired back at U.S. Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Gold River) Monday, both angry at being called a “knucklehead” by a Lungren campaign spokesman last week and criticizing Lungren over his use of “tele town hall meetings” to talk to his constituents.
Durston, a Democrat from Gold River, called on Lungren’s campaign to stop name calling and to stop using the phone meetings as a way to skirt campaign finance laws.
Durston said in a press release that Lungren was using taxpayer money to set up those meetings and said the practice should be illegal.
Tim Clark, a spokesman for Lungren’s campaign, said Durston is incorrect in his description of the by-phone town hall meetings.
“Those are paid for by campaign funds,” Clark said. “Yet again, Bill Durston is wrong on the facts.”
Lungren, elected to the 3rd Congressional District in 2004, defeated Durston in 2006.
