Dreier, Warner exchange attacks as CA-26 heats up

While the re-election campaign of U.S. Rep. David Dreier (R-San Dimas) has refused to publicly comment on Democratic challenger Russ Warner, it began to engage him with negative fliers starting last week, accusing the Rancho Cucamonga resident, the owner of a successful magazine distribution company, of bad business practices. The Warner campaign viewed the attacks as an encouraging sign that Dreier is taking them seriously.

"It shows that they're very concerned with the campaign that Russ has run," said Warner campaign manager Kristin Points. "We're giving Dreier a really good run for his money."

The California Republican Party has also gotten involved, circulating negative emails about Warner's past and highlighting the fact that Warner's corporate business license was suspended earlier this year because of late payment of state fees. The issue has since been resolved, and Warner's license was reinstated.

"Instead of talking about the issues that are important, David Dreier wants to shift the topic and attack Russ' character," Points said.

While the Warner campaign derided the negative mailing, they were quick to respond in kind, releasing their own flier that highlights Dreier's connections to several politicians who have either been convicted, indicted or are under investigation, including former U.S. Reps. Tom DeLay of Texas and Randy "Duke" Cunningham of the San Diego area.

Points expects the California Democratic Party to do more in upcoming weeks than just trumpet Warner’s candidacy as he looks to unseat the 13-term incumbent in this 26th Congressional District, which spans a largely suburban area between Pasadena and San Bernardino. "It's not as safe as it was over the last 26 years," Points contended.

The Dreier campaign could not be reached for comment.

Missing the Point

Warner is a small business owner, and like most of us, he had some problems as he built his company. But he employs people in the district and makes a contribution to the economy. Dreier's a multi-millionaire who's held office for 20+ years, aided finance industry deregulation while taking their contributions, and slavishly supported Bush from the war to the economic, health and social policies that have been squarely against the interests of the working people in our area. What are the more important issues in this campaign?

Russ Warner, Left-wing crackpot

Russ Warner, what is the truth behind the mailers that say you have been fined(leined) over 10 times for failing to pay taxes on your home-based business?
True or false?
Just another bleeding heart liberal who wants to give away everything while holding out his own hand.

I got two mailings, one from

I got two mailings, one from Dreier and one from Warner today. Warner´s was an attack on Dreier as corrupt. Dreiers was a side by side comparison on the issues. Most of Warner´s column was ???. Which is true. He does not take a position on almost anything other than a couple of issues. I would want to know where he himself stands. He merely is content with attacking Dreier, but see the vote is not a no or yes on Dreier but a question of whom to vote for. I cannot in conscience vote for a candidate that does not actually takes stances. It is rather shallow of Warner merely to attack Dreier and not give positive reasons of why my vote should go to him.

Tax Liens?

How does a company get tax liens put on it from different counties when the company doesn't move for its existence? That really lowers Dreier's credibility in my mind. Why list counties if it's a state function anyway?
