The San Bernardino County Republican Party will host an October fundraiser featuring GOP strategist Karl Rove. Republican officials hope the Oct. 10 event will provide a crucial economic jolt for a county party that has faced dire straights in recent months.
"We hope to excite people with this particular event and put an economic shot in the arm of our party," party Chairman Gary Ovitt told the Riverside Press-Enterprise.
The party's executive director Brian Johsz was forced to resign from the paid post in July due to a lack of funds. He now works as a volunteer instead.
The fundraiser will be held at the Etiwanda Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga with tickets costing between $150 and $5,000. Ovitt hopes to raise $100,000.
Rove in contempt of Congress fundraising at public events
Dear Readers:
Explain to me please how in the world elected government officials who have sworn an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, can publicly entertain a man who is flagrantly in contempt of a Congressional subpoena?
What message does that send to anyone paying attention to these matters? I indeed fine it exceedingly troubling. How can I continue to harbor faith in their leadership?
If a member of my family was summoned by a court of justice, in good conscience I would not harbor him if he were a fugitive. It would be illegal, not to mention ethically wrong.
There is no difference of opinion in this matter. These are the facts.
Our community has suspended sound judgment in favor of partisan politics. What are you as a member of the media, charged to serve the public's best interest, going to do to bring intellectual inquiry into the forum of ideas so that the Carl Rove the fugitive is properly brought into the custody of law enforcement officials?
