Vets for Freedom, the independent political action committee that has aired several anti-Barack Obama ads this year, has launched its first California ad campaign, spending $2.2 million on an ad that accuses the Democratic presidential nominee of skipping Senate votes and voting against funding the troops.
The ad opens with an image of a smiling Obama reclining in an office chair. "Barack Obama skipped 45 percent of Senate votes but did manage to show up to vote against emergency funding for our troops," a narrator states.
After criticizing the Democratic nominee for making more trips to Iowa than Iraq, the narrator urges viewers to pressure Obama to support a Senate resolution sponsored by two of John McCain's closest allies, Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)
The ad, which never mentions McCain, began Oct. 1 all across California, except in the San Francisco area.
Saxby Chambliss? VFR supports him?
Just so we're clear on the credibility of Vets for Freedom, they support Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), who complained of a long-ago football injury to be classified 1-Y after his five -- yes, five -- draft deferments ran out.
When he was running against Max Cleland, a decorated triple-amputee from the Vietnam War, Saxby compared him to Osama and Sadaam, an act that McCain called "reprehensible" ...
So one should take into account Vets for Freedom's choice of other candidates when evaluating whether their comments deserve serious consideration.
