Jim L. Brulte, former Republican leader of both the state Assembly and state Senate, said that congressional Republicans are resigned to a McCain defeat in November.
"They are resigned to a probable Obama victory," Brulte told The New York Times for a story that asks if the “Era of Dominance” is over for conservatives.
Brulte argued that Republicans see a presidential loss as an important step in eventually retaking control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
House Republicans, Brulte told the paper, "understand that that is a necessity in order to set the stage to retake the majority."
Brulte served as the Republican Assembly leader from 1992-95, and as the state party's Senate leader from 2000-04.
