The San Bernardino Police Officers Association sent out a mailer urging residents to demand that Mayor Patrick J. Morris act on a number of suggested reforms.
The headline of the mailer reads, "The Wheels Have Fallen Off at City Hall," and lists a "series of scandals, staff resignations and mismanagement problems" that have plagued the city for months.
The flier criticizes Morris, who was elected mayor in 2006, for retaining Michael Billdt as Police Chief, despite a vote of no-confidence from the city's police officers over a month ago. "Our police chief is under fire for cronyism and improper management practices," reads the mailing, which urges residents to contact the mayor's office and demand he find a new police chief immediately.
The flier also hits the mayor on his Operation Phoenix program, a series of crime suppression, intervention and prevention initiatives launched after Morris took office in 2006. The former director of the program is under arrest for felony child molestation, and the SDPOA alleges that the ambitious endeavor "has completely broken down."
