A San Bernardino County Republican group mailed out a newsletter containing what many are calling a racist depiction of Barack Obama on a would-be $10 bill that surrounds the Democratic presidential nominee with ribs, watermelon, and a bucket of fried chicken.
The Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated, wrote in their October newsletter that if Obama is elected his image will appear on food stamps instead of dollar bills, reports The Press-Enterprise.
The statement was followed by an image of "Obama Bucks" featuring Obama's face on a donkey's body surrounded by a number of racist stereotypes.
The GOP group's president, Diane Fedele, told the local paper that she never intended to offend anybody. "It was just food to me," said Fedele. "It didn't mean anything else."
California Republican Party chairman Ron Nehring denounced the newsletter on Friday, but not before the story garnered national attention, appearing in papers such as the Boston Globe and the online-only Washington Independent under the headline, "Et Tu, California?" Political pundit Keith Olbermann derided Fedele on his MSNBC program Thursday night, calling her the day's "worst person in the world," a nightly designation issued at the end of his show, "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."

Independents should take a hard look at the way Republicans act.
This sort of base action is indicative of the ignorant view held by the party.
