Californians split on Prop. 4, according to latest Field Poll

Californians are divided on Proposition 4, the abortion notification measure, according to the latest Field Poll.

The survey of 966 likely voters, conducted from Oct. 18-28, shows that 45 percent support Prop. 4, while 43 percent oppose it. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percent.

Support for the ballot measure has shrunk since September, when a similar Field Poll found that 49 percent of voters would have voted yes on Prop. 4.

The measure, which would prohibit abortion for minors until 48 hours after parental notification, is on the ballot for the third time in four years. In the past, according to a Field report, the measure "started out with early leads in the polls only to be narrowly defeated by voters on Election Day."
