President Bush: Getty Images PhotoIn a city that's arguably the "blue" capital of all the blue states across the nation, San Francisco residents often wear their brand of liberal politics right on their sleeves.
And, it's no secret that in a town featuring more than 80 percent Democratic voter registration that President Bush isn't exactly the most popular commander in chief in these parts.
But in what could be a new high (or low?) in political theater, a group of city residents are circulating a petition to rename a sewer plant in honor of the outgoing president.
So far, volunteers with the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco have collected more than 8,500 petition signatures through June 22.
If qualified for the ballot and passed by the voters in November, the measure would compel city officials to officially rename what is now the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant to the "George W. Bush Sewer Plant." The name change would coincide on Jan. 20 with the inauguration of the new president.
On that same day, memorial commission volunteers told the New York Times that they are planning to organize a "synchronized flush" citywide as a salute to the newly re-named facility.

Sewage Plant
I agree with the intent, but the sewage plant does great work in that area, and DOES keep the environment in SF clean. I'd suggest either changing the name of a garbage dump, or maybe a home for the mentally handicapped instead.
