BERKELEY - Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will open his first Northern California office for the November general election on Thursday in Berkeley, officials announced.
A grand opening celebration will take place between 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the office located at 3225 Adeline St. in Berkeley.

volunteering in another state
I'm 66, live in Berkeley, want to go to Colorado or New Mexico next weekend (for 4 days) to register voters. (I am not good at canvassing.) I can afford my own transportation, and have housing in both states. I'll have access to a car.
I cannot figure out how to get in touch with people who can direct me.
Can you please help?
Thank you,
Here's how to support Obama
If you are really willing to make Obama our next President, please get involved in supporting the campaign offices. Although CA is almost a sure thing for the election, the outreach that is done in the office (phone banks) is to reach out to sister and swing states.
I honestly never thought I'd be so excited to be involved in something so important to this country. I've always been on the sidelines until now.
Please take the next step and offer just a few hours a week, each and every hour is appreciated. If you knew how many hours the McCain campaign is waging on us you'd understand the need to rally every single person to keep things moving.
Thanks so much,

Women-- don't be used as a tool by the Republican Party
As a patriotic American women I am voting for Barack Obama because:
1) He's the best candidate for PRESIDENT (note NOT VP), period.
2) Because of his policies, intelligence and leadership, he is the best PERSON to lead American to the future.
3) His whole campaign has been about change. McCain's campaign was about experience up until the Palin choice-- don't be fooled
4) As am African (bi-racial) American, Barack Obama's leadership will present breakthroughs and opportunities for ALL Americans, including women and minorities.
5) Over the years, the Democrats have shown the greatest support for ALL Americans. The Dems put up the first woman VP and this year, a woman and black presidential candidates. We're way ahead of the republicans. Again, don't be fooled.
I will NOT support McCain/Palin ticket because:
1) I do not believe either McCain or Palin is a maverick. Together their views are much too close to those of Bush/Cheney. They are a vote for the past. Let them take on the Republican party. Let Obama/Biden lead the country.
2) As a woman I will not be used as a chess pawn of Carl Rove and the Republican party. The republicans have hated Hillary Clinton for years. Palin's views are almost completely opposite of HIllary clinton's or any other progressive feminist.
3) I will not allow a Republican to choose another supreme court justice and lead towards overturning Roe vs. Wade.
4) I will not have enough time bewteen now and the election to truly learn who Palin is. The stakes are too high to bring someone into office that will not have time to be tested. Forget it!
5)I'm a proud American who sometimes is critical of the actions of our government at home and overseas. But, I am still a patriot and am sick and tired of being called otherwise.
6) I'm a proud, educated woman who lives on the West coast and is tired of being marginalized as an elite! All Americans have a vote, whether you have graduated from highschool, college, or neither. I thought we aspired to higher education in America!
Palin championed Aerial shooting of wolves and bears in Alaska
Defenders of Wildlife....go to their website and search Palin and see what she is "proud" of.....very graphic....and sad. They shoot and slaughter wolves and bears and leave them to suffer... She's like Cruella DeVil in 101 Dalmatians....
Obama!!!
Obama is ready to lead and if Palin thinks that feild dressing a moose is political experience then she is delusional. Ethical violations, minor transportation issues, and sewer improvement does not consitute,"really running something." Palin needs to quit reading from a power point presentation and start speaking from the heart...which I do not think she has. A robot remininscent of the tin man from the Wizard of OZ. Obama and Biden are the true candidates that are connected to the people while I respect McCain and his contributions to the U.S.A in the Vietnam War he isn't ready to progress us into the future.
