SAN FRANCISCO -- Robert J. McCarthy, a man who figured prominently in the careers of such Golden State political luminaries as Dianne Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, Jerry Brown and many others died Sunday after losing a battle with cancer. He was 61.
An attorney, lobbyist and fundraiser, McCarthy became widely known for his effectiveness in getting things done and making things happen in both the political and legal arenas.
"Bob McCarthy was a trusted adviser and close friend for 30 years," Feinstein told the San Francisco Chronicle in this obituary published late Tuesday.
"He stood with me through it all -- as a county supervisor, as mayor and as a United States senator. "As I told his wonderful wife, Suzanne, I know what it's like to lose a husband to cancer. My heart goes out to her, their five children and the rest of the McCarthy family. Bob will be deeply missed," Feinstein said.
