SACRAMENTO - Meg Whitman, the woman credited with turning eBay into a multibillion-dollar Internet auction site and a person believed to have been on Sen. John McCain's short list for vice presidential running mates, endorsed Prop. 11, the redistricting initiative on the Nov. 4 ballot on Thursday.
"Prop. 11 is the right reform at the right time for California. Our great state faces so many significant challenges when it comes to our economy, health care system, state budget, education system, infrastructure needs, and the list goes on," the former eBay chief executive said. "We need a government that is responsive and accountable for producing real, innovative solutions to meet these challenges and Prop. 11 is an important part of making that happen."
If approved by the voters, Prop. 11 will create a 14-person independent citizens commission to draw fair legislative districts - keeping communities, cities and counties intact. The commission will be comprised of five Democrats, five Republicans and four individuals from other parties.
