Today's convention schedule

The fourth and final day of the Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST on Thursday, with a theme of "Change You Can Believe In."

The final day's events will take place at INVESCO Field at Mile High, where over 70,000 people are expected to attend.

Featured speakers will include Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D), former Vermont Gov. and Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean (D), New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D), U.S. Rep. and U.S. Senate candidate Mark Udall (D-Colo.), Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine (D), former Vice President Al Gore (D) and U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D).

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), the Democratic presidential nominee, is scheduled to address the convention at 10 p.m. EST.

Hillary Clinton to address state, county and municipal employee convention this week

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is set to join a small cadre of politicians speaking before a large gathering of state and local government employees meeting this week in San Francisco.

Clinton (D-New York) is scheduled to appear before American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union delegates on Thursday, organizers said. The senator is also expected to use the trip to the Golden State to do some fundraising to help retire the debt accumulated from her recent hard-fought bid to become the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.

Reporters asking the wrong questions: Avoid rumors, follow the money when covering the oil business

The most useful diagramming of how a rumor spreads was provided last week by the Sacramento Bee's "Capitol Alert" under the headline, "Slow news day? Old, new media push Schwarzenegger/Obama rumor."

Reportedly, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said on Sunday morning TV that he would be open to serving as "energy czar" in an Obama administration -- and many new and old media ran with this -- even though he actually said no such thing. All he said is that his "acting" and bodybuilding days were over, adding: "I've committed myself to be a public servant, because as I said, this country has given me everything."
