McClintock, Brown spar over stance on issues, voting record

The campaign for State Sen. Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) called its opponent, Charlie Brown, "wishy-washy" on issues this week, saying he'd changed his views on topics repeatedly during the campaign to represent the 4th Congressional District.

McClintock's campaign, in a press release, said Brown was not being consistent on such issues as his stances on offshore oil drilling, illegal immigration and gay marriage.

McClintock says S.F. should get no funds for sanctuary city status

San Francisco's status as a "sanctuary city" should mean a cutoff of federal funds, congressional candidate State Sen. Tom McClintock said Tuesday.

"A local government that actively works to undermine our nation's security and sovereignty has no claim to our nation's resources and support," said McClintock, who made the statement in a speech in Sacramento during a rally by the Minutemen, a group concerned about illegal immigration and border security.

Clark to campaign with Charlie Brown

Retired Gen. Wesley Clark will campaign with congressional candidate Charlie Brown Thursday in Roseville and assist in Brown's program to benefit veterans who need help.

Clark, who ran for president in 2004, will make a $30,000 presentation of new donations to Brown's "Promises Kept Veterans Charity Challenge" campaign, which donates 5 percent of his campaign donations to nonprofit community-based groups that help veterans and their families.

Brown campaign says McClintock mailer is full of inaccuracies

Congressional candidate Charlie BrownCongressional candidate Charlie BrownCongressional candidate Charlie Brown's campaign fired back at opponent state Sen. Tom McClintock this week, saying a campaign mailer McClintock sent to 4th Congressional District voters is "rife with fabrications."

Brown campaign manager Todd Stenhouse said the mailer, which compares McClintock's (R-Thousand Oaks) stances on issues to Roseville Democrat Brown's, is incorrect in several instances.

Ose backs McClintock in mail piece bashing Brown

State Sen. Tom McClintock will tout support from primary rival and former U.S. Rep. Doug Ose in a campaign piece hitting mailboxes in California's 4th Congressional District this weekend,

In a press release, McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) noted how Ose, a Republican from Sacramento, called to endorse him as soon as McClintock defeated Ose and two other GOP candidates in the June 3 primary.

McClintock asks Brown to join "no tax" pledge

State Sen. Tom McClintock said Monday he hasn't signed off on a state budget because he opposes any new taxes, and he called on congressional opponent Charlie Brown to make the same pledge.

McClintock's campaign noted in a release Monday that McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) told a group of Nevada County Republicans in the 4th Congressional District over the weekend that the current budget proposal represents the second-largest tax increase in the state's history.

"Today's political debates too often trade substance for sound bites, quality discourse for quips and a grown-up discussion for carefully rehearsed ‘gotchas,'" McClintock wrote in the column. "Even the ‘town hall' settings of today are filled with supporters from both camps laying in wait to be called upon with a ‘setup' question."

Brown campaign: McClintock has no credibility on energy

The campaign for Democratic congressional candidate Charlie Brown responded to attacks on energy policy from opponent State Sen. Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) by saying Brown had brought up the topic first, and with more credibility, than McClintock.

"We're glad to have this debate," said Brown's campaign manager, Todd Stenhouse. He said Brown agreed with McClintock that Congress should be working on energy policy rather than taking vacation, and that offshore oil drilling should be part of that policy.

McClintock again calls on Brown to support oil drilling

State Sen. Tom McClintock again called on congressional opponent Charlie Brown (D-Roseville) to join him in calling for Congress to resume business and begin work on an energy plan that would include expansion of offshore oil drilling.

In a press release, McClintock said Brown opposes offshore oil drilling, but won't publicly say so because he knows that stance is out of line with how voters feel in the 4th Congressional District he's seeking to represent.

Brown challenges McClintock to four debates

Congressional candidate Charlie Brown challenged Republican opponent Tom McClintock Thursday to four debates in October, with specifics on when and where the debates should take place.

In a press release, Brown called for a debate on national security the first week of the month in Placer County, on the topic of the economy the second week in El Dorado County, on domestic policy during the third week in Nevada County, and a debate on all topics during the fourth week in the district's northern portion.
