Lawmakers push Thompson for Interior Department head

U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) is being touted by two other Bay Area representatives as a possible U.S. Secretary of the Interior under President-elect Barack Obama, according to the Associated Press.

The story published Thursday evening said that U.S. Reps. Anna Eshoo (D-Palo Alto) and George Miller (D-Martinez) sent a letter to Obama transition team members that suggested Thompson be considered for the role.

Miller says government must next turn its attention to propping up sagging 401K and pension plans

With American pension plans losing more than $2 trillion in value over the last 15 months, Congressman George Miller said Wednesday that he is concerned that Californians increasingly will not be able to retire when they plan and when they finally do quit working they will have to live on a lot less.

Pelosi sends two Golden State members of Congress to war-torn Republic of Georgia

WASHINGTON - At the request of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, two Golden State congressmen will travel to the Republic of Georgia this weekend on a fact-finding mission.

Pelosi (D-San Francisco) will send East Bay Congressman George Miller (D-Martinez) and Congressman Howard Berman (D-Van Nuys) to the worn-torn region as part of a larger American delegation. They are due to arrive there sometime Friday.

Miller is chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee and Miller is chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Justin Hamilton, Miller's Internet guru, to take leave of absence to work for Obama Campaign in Missouri

Justin Hamilton, Congressman George Miller's new media and Internet guru, will be taking a leave of absence to handle press relations duties for Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign in Missouri, PolitickerCA.com has learned.

Hamilton, a Texas native, is the Martinez Democrat's deputy chief of staff. A spokesperson for Miller's office confirmed the move Wednesday.

Bill to establish massive Bay Area wildlife refuge complex launched

Bay Area Congressmen George Miller and Pete Stark are currently pushing legislation that proposes to join together seven local wildlife refuges.

The bill, HR 6479, would create the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex and would unite the Bay Area's seven separate national wildlife refuges into a single complex to leverage greater federal funding for these unique habitats. The refuges that would be brought together range from San Francisco to the Monterey Bay.
