Buell's Clinton-backing PAC continues efforts

Barack Obama’s victory in the Democratic presidential primary hasn’t pushed WomenCountPAC, the political action committee founded by prominent California Hillary Clinton backer Susie Tompkins Buell, to shutter its efforts.

The organization is preparing to take out a full page advertisement in the New York Times in the next week that will call on the Democratic Party to focus on issues that are of concern to women, PolitickerCA.com has learned.

Rosemary Camposano, a spokeswoman for WomenCountPAC, said that while “the core of the group supported Hillary,” the organization wanted to make sure that women-focused issues central to Clinton’s candidacy, such as health care and abortion rights, remained in the public spotlight.

Primary in rearview mirror, Hollywood givers ponder next moves

Barbra Streisand: Getty Images PhotoBarbra Streisand: Getty Images PhotoWhile U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is reportedly urging her top presidential donors to provide funds to U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), it appears that one constituency will need little convincing: those in the Hollywood community.

“We are already seeing Clinton supporters moving over,” Andy Spahn, who works as a political adviser for DreamWorks founders Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen, told PolitickerCA.com.

Spahn also said the trio – each of whom has given extensively to the Democratic Party over the years -- would be holding a fundraiser for Obama in the near future.

It’s not the first big-name Hollywood fundraiser for Obama’s general election effort. The Illinois senator is scheduled to swoop into Los Angeles for a June 24 fundraiser at the Los Angeles Music Center, whose chairman, John Emerson, is a longtime Clinton supporter who served as Deputy Assistant to President Clinton. Attendees to the event will have the option of giving $2,300 to Obama or $28,500 to a joint campaign and Democratic National Committee account.

Salazar, Kinney retool pro-Clinton American Leadership Project for general election

American Leadership Project, the pro-Hillary Clinton 527 group that is headed up by California-based political consultants Roger Salazar and Jason Kinney, is retooling as it gears up to play a role in a general election in which Clinton primary opponent Barack Obama will be the Democratic Party’s nominee.

“The primary season just ended, and we’re evaluating where we are,” Kinney told PolitickerCA.com today. “I think we can be an effective voice in the general election highlighting the issues.”

Kinney and Salazar declined to specify what role the organization would be playing, but confirmed that they were actively considering their options.

“We’re still talking about it,” said Kinney. “It’s something we’re seriously considering.”

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is announcing the endorsements of five new California superdelegates: U.S. Reps. Bob Filner, Sam Farr, and Jerry McNerney and Democratic National Committee members Rachel Binah and Christine Pelosi.

Earlier in the day, Obama’s campaign announced the endorsements of Democratic National Committee members John Perez and Kamil Hasan and U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters.

Superdelegates Waters, Hasan jump on the Obama train

U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, a superdelegate, is jumping from the campaign of Hillary Clinton to the Barack Obama camp, continuing the train of state superdelegates lining up behind the Illinois senator.

“Senator Hillary Clinton has run a superb campaign and has proven to be a hard worker while gaining the support of many key constituencies that will be essential for Democratic success in November," Waters said today. “Despite that, Senator Obama’s delegate numbers more than describe the enthusiasm for his candidacy and I believe that by the end of the day, he will have the necessary numbers to become the Democratic Party nominee for President."

Waters is a nine term congresswoman from Los Angeles. She sits on the House Financial Services Committee.

Superdelegate Filner prepares to endorse; Davis, Mulholland to hold

U.S. Rep. Bob Filner, an undeclared superdelegate, appears likely to endorse in the Democratic presidential race Tuesday evening.

“He will be releasing a statement on the presidential race later tonight,” says a spokeswoman.

Filner is an eight term Democrat from San Diego.

Two other state superdelegates, meanwhile, indicated they were not prepared to endorse today.

“She has said he will be waiting for all the primaries to be over,” said a spokesman for U.S. Rep. Susan Davis.

Bob Mulholland, a campaign adviser to the California Democratic Party, was more direct when asked if he would making a decision Tuesday.

“No,” he said.
