Third suspect in the Matt Garcia slaying arrested at Las Vegas restaurant

FAIRFIELD - Henry Don Williams, the fugitive ex-convict who police believe shot and mortally wounded City Councilman Matt Garcia on Sept. 1, was arrested Saturday at a Las Vegas restaurant.

A combined team of Fairfield and Las Vegas police and agents from the U.S. Marshals Service took the 32-year-old suspect into custody without incident, authorities said.

Suspected shooter in Matt Garcia slaying is thought to have fled the state

FAIRFIELD - Authorities this week said that slain 22-year-old City Councilman Matt Garcia - considered to be one of the youngest serving officials in California - was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he was mortally wounded by man involved in an effort to collect a narcotics debt.

Investigators say that man, identified as Henry Don Williams, 32, of Fairfield may have fled the state. He is considered armed and dangerous and a $150,000 reward has been posted for his arrest and conviction.

Two suspects arrested in connection with Fairfield councilman's homicide; Third suspect remains at large

FAIRFIELD - Police announced over the weekend the arrests of two people in connection with the Sept. 1 shooting death of 22-year-old City Councilman Matt Garcia.

Gene Allen Combs, a 45-year-old mechanic from neighboring Suisun City and Nicole Stewart, 33, of Fairfield were taken into custody early Saturday on suspicion of homicide, conspiracy and criminal use of a firearm. Both are scheduled to be arraigned in Solano County Superior Court on Tuesday.

Fairfield mayor seeks to triple award in Matt Garcia slaying case

FAIRFIELD - The City Council here will meet Thursday to determine whether to appoint a replacement for slain City Councilman Matt Garcia or call a special election to fill his seat.

The panel will meet at City Hall starting at 5:30 p.m. The council is under a 30-day, state-imposed deadline to make the decision, officials said.

Body of slain 22-year-old Fairfield councilman turned over to organ transplant team

FAIRFIELD - City Councilman Matt Garcia, who was shot and fatally wounded Monday but kept alive on life support systems, was transferred to the care of a team of transplant surgeons Wednesday after family members gave him one last tearful good-bye at John Muir Medical Center.

The transfer of the 22-year-old at 3:30 p.m. brought to a close the brief but inspired life of one the Golden State's youngest elected officials.

FAIRFIELD SHOOTING UPDATE: Schwarzenegger offers $50,000 reward for arrest in Garcia shooting

SACRAMENTO - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Tuesday issued a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction in a California court of the person or persons responsible for the shooting of Fairfield City Councilman Matt Garcia.

Garcia, who sustained a gunshot to the back of the head during an attack Monday night, was declared brain dead late this morning and family members have decided to remove him from life support, Mayor Harry Price said.

The governor announced the reward in a press statement issued at 1:28 p.m.

The 22-year-old first term councilman is believed to be the youngest serving elected official in the state and was a strong anti-crime and anti-gang advocate.

Fairfield police have not made any arrests in connection with the incident.

Fairfield City Councilman Matt Garcia: Campaign PhotoFairfield City Councilman Matt Garcia: Campaign PhotoFAIRFIELD - Mayor Harry Price announced within the last hour that doctors at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek formally declared Matt Garcia brain dead, prompting family members of the 22-year-old councilman to remove him from life support machines.

The popular Garcia was shot and critically wounded Monday night in the Cordelia neighborhood of this city found along Interstate 80 midway between San Francisco and Sacramento.

Fairfield officials have opened up City Hall to members of the public and city employees seeking grief counseling and information about the incident which has shocked the Solano County city of 105,000 residents.

As of late morning Fairfield police had not made any arrests in connection with the shooting.
