Former Fleishman Hilliard Exec Doug Dowie has surfaced and is working at Marathon Communications.
For those who don’t know, Dowie is an ex-Marine and an editor at the Daily News who became one of Los Angeles’ most powerful public relations execs. He led the FH office when it had close ties to former Mayor Jim Hahn’s administration and the firm held some significant contracts with the City and the Dept of Water & Power.
Dowie was accused and subsequently convicted of padding the firm’s bills and FH repaid the City a considerable sum of money.
The former PR Exec turned screenwriter is still a convicted felon while his Appeal is being considered. The Appellate Court has also indicated in past rulings that it appears to be looking favorably on the appeal.
Marathon Communications is led by Richard Lichtenstein. The firm is a former home to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s COS Robin Kramer and Lichtenstein maintains a very close relationship with Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and other electeds around the region. Lichtenstein also advises Yaroslavsky on issues relating to bringing an NFL team back to the L.A. Coliseum.
Could Dowie be back giving advice to L.A. politicians again?

Justice?
This was a billing dispute that never should have been prosecuted. Dowie and Stodder have appealed and the court has indicated there could be problems with their convictions. Meanwhile, registered lobbyist Steve Sugerman, who pled guilty, continues to represent Play Vista and other clients.
Doug Dowie
I hope not. He ripped off the city government and the stakeholders. If L.A. politicians listen then they are only as good as the people the listen to and in this case a convicted felon.
